Mercenaries 2 pc review update#
This update will allow players to create even more chaos in the streets and hills of Venezuela, offering: The “Total Payback” update for Mercenaries 2: World in Flames is scheduled for on Oct.r 13th for Xbox Live and on Oct.r 20th for the PlayStation Network. They think they can get away with it, because they don't know rule #1: EVERYBODY PAYS. Not everyone in the world of Mercenaries is as honorable - everyone will try and screw you, given the chance. You have your own code: fulfill the terms of the contract, no matter what.

You don't have to play by anyone's rules. Play your own way, or play with the help of a friend in the new cooperative multiplayer mode. If you see it, you can buy it, steal it or blow the living crap out of it. And if you run out of cash you can always 'acquire' the gear you need in the field. Tanks, APCs, boats, luxury automobiles - you name it, you can have it delivered to you in real time. Mercenaries 2 features the latest and most dangerous in civilian and military technology - everything from shiny new sports cars to the future-tech satellite-guided bunker-busting mini-nuke. These are world powers with deep pockets, deep grudges and enough arms and ammo to start World War III. Mercenaries 2 features a slew of potential clients, all willing to pay you to do their dirty work. A power-hungry tyrant messes with Venezuela's oil supply, sparking an invasion that turns the country into a war zone.īut for you, international crisis is all upside: You are a mercenary, and you profit from chaos. Still, while it isn't the prettiest game or the most original, it does get the job done when it comes to delivering some cheap thrills.Mercenaries 2: World in Flames is an explosive open-world action game set in a massive, highly reactive, war-torn world.

The gameplay is there but fundamental aspects like the presentation and graphics are fairly mediocre, which cuts into the fun. The game's focus on action does lead to some intense moments but the rest of the game doesn't instil the same sense of excitement. The optional side missions, however, are great thanks to their unscripted nature - you never know exactly how things will turn out and that makes for exciting gameplay - and it's disappointing that this sort of unpredictability didn't extend to the core missions. Not only is the story shallow, but the main campaign missions, which almost always involves knocking someone off, saving a hostage, or obliterating a building, aren't as compelling as they could be.

Cinematically speaking, it's more Bruckheimer than Scorcese, meaning it leans on big explosions and flashy set pieces rather than a well developed plot and characters.Īnd yet, much like a Jerry Bruckheimer movie, Mercenaries 2 is entertaining in an over-the-top action but suffers from some faults that keep it from being more than just another mindless shoot-'em-up. That's not to mention the fact that blowing up buildings and shooting at bad guys is its own reward, especially because the paper-thin story isn't that great. As one of three characters-the heavy metal Mattias, the buff Chris, or the slinky Jennifer-you wander the streets and jungles of Venezuela to slowly undo your rival's nefarious plan.Īs in the first Mecenary title, various factions pop up and offer you contracts complete them and you can shake up the balance of power while also lining your pockets. You refuse to take the situation sitting down-well, you actually can't sit down at all-and decide to go after the wanna-be dictator. After completing a job for an Venezuelan oil tycoon with illusions of political grandeur you're predictably betrayed and shot in the butt as you flee the scene worst of all, the jerk stiffs you on your bill.
